In class we discussed Vincent Van Gogh and the style of art he used. We studied and went over his famous piece The Starry Night and how he used swirls and smooth lines to create bright and glowing sky above a village. Our assignment was to create our very own Starry Night. We were to make our own background using tissue paper and gluing it down to create the colorful sky. We used modge podge to keep the tissue paper down. We then created a scene by cutting out of black construction paper. I decided to make a little neighborhood of houses. We also used oil pastels to create swirls and lines in the sky and same as creating lines on the houses.
For an extension activity, I thought the students could research other art pieces that Van Gogh has created and used swirls and lines in. They can then use any material and try to make their very own masterpiece just like other Van Gogh pieces.
